I always enjoy living history museums for many reasons. Foremost is my deep personal love of English social history and the opportunity to see firsthand how people lived and accomplished daily tasks in the past. The historic settings are a photographer's paradise, offering countless opportunities to create images that transport viewers back in time. I strive to capture scenes that evoke strong emotions, enhanced by a sympathetic post-production edit.
Earlier this month, I had some spare time and decided to visit Cogges Manor Farm Living History Museum in Cogges near Witney, Oxfordshire, nestled in the heart of the beautiful Cotswolds countryside. This site has been home to a farmstead for over a thousand years and is truly unique—a real gem.
As I wandered around, the small bakehouse off the kitchen immediately caught my attention. Its yellow walls, washing hung up to dry and an armchair with a blanket throw bathed in the afternoon light streaming through a window created a scene straight out of another era. It was the perfect candidate for my ongoing book cover imagery project and a lovely addition to my Living History gallery.
